Here is a list of things to consider when looking for a cheap car rental in your city:
- Hidden Fees in the car rental agreement: there can be a lot of hidden feeds in your agreement. These hidden fees include a pick-up fee, or an additional fee for extra mileage
- Pre-Paid Gas/Fuel Refund Fees: if I return the car with fuel is there a refund? Is there an extra charge if I return the car empty?
- Insurance Premium: Am I required to have my own insurance? Or do I need to get insurance through the agency? If so, how much is it? A lot of car rental agencies try to sneak-in additional insurance charges (especially per seat, per age, etc.). You need to ask before hand and look at any clause in the agreement that cover insurance.
- Age Limits/Restrictions: Some agreements have limits if you are under 25 or 18. If so, is there a restriction or a surcharge?
- Automatic Toll Transponders: Is the 407 ETR covered? Are there any toll routes that I can travel for free, and vice versa: are there any that I cannot travel on and/or will I be fined for travelling on? If you are getting a cheap car rental in Toronto, and you are visiting the US - you will need to keep in mind that ETR (express toll rates) will definitely vary upon each state that you visit.
- GPS Units: are GPS units covered? If I damage the GPS what is the fee or penalty?
These are some things to consider - especially when you are looking for a cheap car rental in Toronto.
